OFTA Adopts IPv6 for its Website

Starting from 4 February 2010, OFTA website "www.ofta.gov.hk" is accessible by computers working with Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) addresses.

IPv6 is the next generation protocol designed as a replacement to Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4), which is the version more popularly used in the Internet today. IPv4 can only provide approximately a total of 4 billion addresses while the number of available addresses of IPv6 is up to 3.403 x 1038. As of 1 February 2010, less than 10 percent of available IPv4 addresses remain unallocated. Faced with the imminent depletion of IPv4 addresses, network operators and enterprises will need to implement IPv6 in the near future in order to ensure the long-term growth of their businesses. By equipping its website with IPv6 capability, OFTA has taken the necessary steps so that it may better serve the industry and the community.
