Registration Hotline Numbers for Three Do-not-call Registers
Merged to 1835000 from 26 March 2008

To improve the user-friendliness of the registration process for the three do-not-call registers for fax messages, short messages and pre-recorded telephone messages, the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA) announced today (25 March 2008) that the unified registration hotline number of the three registers would be 1835000 starting from 26 March 2008.

"As the different phases for launching the three do-not-call registers have been completed, it is time to merge the three registration hotline numbers into one so as to make it easier for the public to remember. As such, starting from 26 March 2008, members of the public can register their numbers (e.g. fax, fixed, mobile, personal numbers, etc.) onto any of the three registers by calling one single hotline number - 1835000," a spokesperson of OFTA said.

"There is no deadline for registration. Members of the public can register their numbers onto the do-not-call registers on any day at any time (except 23:00-24:00 each day when the database undergoes updating)," the spokesperson elaborated.

"The three do-not-call registers have been operating smoothly since they were launched. As at 24 March 2008, 478,091 numbers have been registered onto the three registers, among which 84,952 numbers were on the fax register, 107,764 numbers on the short messages register and 285,375 numbers on the pre-recorded telephone messages register," the spokesperson said.

The protection for registered numbers will start on the tenth working day after the registration date. Members of the public may check the registration date of their numbers by calling the registration hotline 1835000 or visiting the website at http://www.dnc.gov.hk. They can also cancel the registration of their numbers by calling the same hotline number.
